This is a 3D printed water filter that uses gravel, sand, and charcoal to clean out unfiltered water. Even though the filter cleans out the water, it is still a safe measure to boil the water after the filtration process.

The benefit of using gravel, sand, and charcoal lies in the fact that all of the materials are easily obtained from nature. The filtering materials are placed in 3 separate cartridges to allow for the materials to be easily replaced and the filter main case to be cleaned easily. To hold the filtering materials in, a paper towel or some type of paper filter needs to placed at the bottom of the filter cartridge.

To hold the filter cartridges in the casing, a Velcro strap is used to hook inside the 2 loops on casing side and hook around the casing cover.

To make the filtration process less time more convenient, I designed the filter to screw onto the necks of 1 or 2 liter soda bottles. One soda bottle with the bottom cut off needs to be screwed on the top of the filter with the dirty water and another soda bottle needs to be attached to the bottom of the filter to catch the filtered water. The top of the filter has a small hole in which the dirty water flows through to reduce water flow. This prevent the filter from flooding.

The inspiration for my design came from a project by The King of Random on YouTube. He made a filter using water bottles in which he layered gravel, sand, and finely crushed charcoal. He was then able to filter water from his fish pond and drink it after boiling it to remove all the bacteria. I've included his video on his water filter to show how it works.

Thank you for taking time to look at my project and please give any feedback you deem helpful!
