I was asked to design and create a piece that would help aid in distance learning. I wanted to design and create a piece that would be quirky and represented something I like. I gathered the few things I have been consistently reaching for, a pen, my phone and lipgloss for our virtual meetings, since these have been crucial for me! Simplicity was key, I did not want to make something that was overly bulky and complicated but more a conversation piece for my desk.
● What issues did you come up against?
Getting the dimensions correct was a bit of a battle, also making sure my design was properly defined was also a bit tough. I do not have a conventional design so it was a bit difficult to make sure it looked as close as possible to my desired image.
● If you could redesign this again, What would you change?
I wish I was a bit more design savvy to make the design seem more complex and distinct. My design skills are still a bit amateur, so maybe adding texture to the design could be a possibility for next time. I also really wanted to add star like extruded designs on the corners to give my glasses a superstar effect but kept running into issues, maybe next time I will attempt. I also think that making the extrude portion different at an angle would also make my design seem a bit better.
● How would 3D printing help strengthen your design?
3D printing would allow my design be as wild and crazy as I desired. I would be able to easily customize and alter at any given time. Since my design is all about glasses, I could literally make any style of glasses I desire, pretty easily. Having that type of flexibility would allow me to generate designs that would not be easily feasible in the typical market.
