This is a redesign of the right-hand z-axis top mount which was designed by shawdreamer (Thing number 1776244)
The shawdreamer top mounts were almost the first thing I changd on my i3 printer more than 18 months ago. These help the z-axis move with less resistance lessening the chances of the steppers stalling and getting out of sync. One of the problems with the i3 is that often the left and right-hand guide rods do not run absolutely parallel which can cause problems. My solution is to have the left-hand fixed rigidly and acting as an accurate datum for the x-axis, and to allow some movement of the right-hand guide/drive rods parallel to the x-axis.
This is done by making the mount holes for the drive and guide rods slightly oval.
It has worked for me for over eighteen months. As for the original Thing (1776244) you will need a skateboard bearing (F608ZZ 8mm bearing).
