Here is a small articulated snail ... with a whole bunch of shells to print! The shells are easy to put on and take off, so you can change them as you wish.
This design is a mix between two designs:
The friendly articulated slug by Isaiah for the body of the snail
The realistic garden snail by crashdebug: I used his shell as a basis for mine
Many thanks to them for their great designs!
Eight shells are available (cf. pictures):
shell01_organic.stl: looks like a real snail shell
shell02_scrolls.stl: shell with scrolls
shell03_broken.stl: broken-looking shell
shell04_disco.stl: shell with a disco / psychedelic pattern
shell05_organic2.stl: another realistic shell
shell06_square.stl: shell with square-shaped patterns
shell07_flowers.stl: shell with flower-shaped patterns
shell08_oriental.stl: a shell with a pattern inspired by far eastern art
There is a 9th shell file: shell00_basis.stl. This is the file that served as the basis for all my shells. This version is only slightly modified compared to that of crashdebug. I put it on so you can use it to create your own shells!
ENJOY !
If you print a snail, post a make, that will make me happy =)
Some printing tips:
I recommend printing the body of the snail (= SlugV1.1_snail.stl) with 35% infill for reasons of strength. I also recommend a layer height of 0.16 or less. There is no need for supports.
I recommend printing the shells with a low infill rate (I printed at 3%) to avoid them being too heavy. I also recommend a small layer height (0.12) to better highlight the details. You have to print them with supports (I used tree supports).
I only used "silk" filament to print the snail. I am not sure what will be the result with another type of filament.
The filaments I used:
Eryone Silk Emerald Green PLA
Eryone Dark Gold PLA
Noulei Antique Gold PLA
Noulei Copper PLA
Sunlu Silk Black PLA
Credit for patterns:
shell07_flowers.stl: the pattern was designed by GarryKillian (Freepik)
shell08_oriental.stl : the pattern was designed by macrovector_official (Freepik)
I also took some 3D textures on this great site: 3dtextures.me
