Okay. so the idea here is to build a printer that is hands-down overpowered, and, if tuned right, can print with spooky swiftness.
First of all, it's gonna use NEMA 23 size motors, not the usual NEMA 17, with the exception of the feed motor, because the extruder carriage assembly has to be lightweight, and the feed motor never had to work that hard anyway.
The frame will be made of printed parts and 3/8" smooth and threaded rods. The only piece I have tessellated so far is the corner ball.
The motor controllers for the horizontal axes will be microstepping controllers.
Well, it really is a bit complicated, and has a long way to go.
Update: Extruder carriage design added.
Info update: The printer will only be made to print in PLA (and HDPE when we get a filastruder). it will have a water-cooled build plate, and possibly even a refrigerated build chamber. So, no ABS.
Update: Made a more easily printed carriage quarter piece.
Sad update: The printer idea that I spent so long developing has been calmed down to something practical. The designs here are probably better for a CNC, and the modular carriage-insert mounting design could be used for toolhead swapping.
The printer itself will end up just being a MegaPrusa i3 with NEMA 23 adapters. Because the MegaPrusa... well, it is a little underpowered. I'll see what I can do.
