I got sick of the stock control box fans being super loud. I have my printers in my home office which is also where I watch TV and would have to turn the volume way up. Since 50mm fans like the stock ones are really hard to find in general, nevermind the right voltage and quiet, I opted to replace the whole cover and replace the 2 fans with a single 80mm. The fan I found is a Noctua NF-R8 rated at only 17dB. I could've gone quieter but this was a decent price and honestly the steppers are louder anyways.
Voltage regulator is required because I found sourcing a quiet 24V fan incredibly hard. Just be sure that you adjust the output voltage with the onboard trimpot before hooking up your fan! I used my variable bench supply to set it up, but I guess you could hook it up to the Formbot... just be careful.
Note: Screws on back will fit fine, but the 2 screws on the fan side need to be replaced with a 20mm M3 to fit through the thicker cover.
Anyways, whole thing is much quieter now. And my wife is happier :)
