Folding Theater Sawhorse

Quick sketch of a common theater sawhorse. The two sides are constructed of 1x4 stock, butt joined, and re-enforced with 1/4' plywood gussets on at least one side (often both sides). The sides are then connected with hinges at their top edges and a hinged two part spreader bar joining their lower stiles. The hinged spreader allows you to slide the horse around without collapsing it, making it easy to kick into position while your hands are otherwise occupied. A nice variation is a style with the top stiles cut even with the sides, allowing you to use the horse sitting on end as a table base etc. (if you try this variation make the length 28-30' for table use) height can be varied by either leg length or spreader length. (leg length is a better control, but you can change the spreader length anytime and switch it back and forth as needed.) Note that the outside gussets are beveled at the top rail to allow material to rest evenly on the outside of the top rails in use. A more common build in the theater would be to place the gussets a bit down from the top edge. #sawhorse #theater #folding #saw_horse
