The Territory of Tanganyika or Tanganyika was a territory that was part of the British colonial empire, administered by the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1961. At the end of the First World War, the territory of Tanganyika was administered by the German Empire, as part of German East Africa. The British administered the Territory as an occupation force since 1916, until in 1961 it gained independence under the name of Tanganyika. In 1964, with an agreement, Tanganyika and neighboring Zanzibar formed the federal republic of Tanzania, which corresponds territorially to the ancient Tanganyika. #flag #Tanganyka #Africa #Tanzania
