The flag of Saudi Arabia is green with at the center an inscription under which stands a sword.The writing on the flag, in thuluth (an Islamic calligraphy) is that of the shahada, or the declaration of Islamic faith: لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الل lā 'ilāha' illa-llāh muḥammadun rasūlu-llāh which means 'There is no god besides Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet '. Given the sacredness of the epigraph, the Saudi flag cannot be reproduced on t-shirts or other objects. Green flags bearing this or other Arabic phrases are frequently seen in Islam, but differ from the national flag of Saudi Arabia as they lack the symbol of the sword. Since the flag bears the 'Word of Allah', it is never hoisted at half-mast, not even after a national or real mourning. Another important peculiarity, always connected with the religious character, is the fact that the very inscription of the shahada appears straight both on one side and on the other of the flag, to ensure a correct reading. #flag #Saudi Arabia
