Flag of Mississippi

In 2001 a referendum was proposed to change the state flag. The referendum proposed replacing the flag of the confederal states, considered disrespectful for African Americans, with a circle of twenty stars: 13 stars representing the thirteen states that first formed the Union, six stars to represent the states under which it was Mississippi territory (American Indians, France, Spain, Great Britain, United States and Confederate States). A big star in the center representing the state itself. Furthermore, the total number of stars would have recalled the fact that the Mississippi was the 20th state to join the Union. The referendum was rejected with 65% of voters opposed to the exchange rate. #flag #Mississippi #USA
