The Israeli flag was adopted on October 28, 1948. It represents a blue Star of David in the center of a tallèd, the Jewish prayer mantle. Concretely, the star of David stands on a white background, placed between two blue stripes. Controversy over the flag Some opponents of Israel support a theory according to which the blue stripes would actually represent the Nile and Euphrates rivers: these would be the natural borders of the territories that for some reason Israel secretly would try to conquer.
