The original version of this is genius, but there's no reason to spend so much time and filament making a trash can when you probably already have some extra Mason jars, right?
I've included two options:
filament trash lid remix - regular.stl This is the remixed top, fit perfectly for a regular-mouthed Mason jar. It has very narrow but stiff tendrils which make it easier to stuff in bundles of filament. I just took the original model and CGAL'd my way to success with OpenSCAD.
filament trash lid - regular/wide.stl This is the parameterized version. I essentially cut out a star from a circle. You can tweak everything and it fits wide-mouth jars as well. It's different in practice and I'm really not sure which type I prefer.
Would love ideas to improve these lids. They've got frustrating issues like how hard it is to get in loops of filament (of course, they don't let them out easily). Tip: Use your tweezers to push them in instead of your fingers.
Ideas for improvement:
Maybe a funnel-like lid with triangular tendrils would be better: Easier to push things in, harder for them to come out.
Create a version that can hang off the printer by remixing this lid to fit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1581127
What else would work well for this common, messy chore?
