Fafnir, the lindworm from the 'Nibelungenlied', lived very likely here in the dragon cave at the Drachenfels near Bad Dürkheim. The lindworm was killed in a fight by Siegfried the dragon slayer, son of Siegmund. Siegfried later took a bath in the beast's blood and thus became invulnerable. In 1888, the archaeologist Christian G.
