I use MAG3110 compass module for the following reasons:
Integrated compasses that come with most flight controllers are completely useless because a flight controller is normally surrounded by wires that have some serious amperage going through them (aka electromagnets)
MAG3110 works with boards that have integrated compasses unlike HMC5983 because you cannot have more than one HMC5983 on the same i2c bus. So if you have a board with HMC5983 unless you physically break off connectors to it, you cannot use an external one
Since I2C is a BUS, you can hook up multiple I2C devices to the same connector, so you do not have to waste a port on a compass if you use MAG3110 like this:https://amzn.to/2IMFoXo
