F-110a WASP Interceptor

The F-110 Wasp was a dedicated fleet interceptor deployed by the Confederation. It was deployed in the 2680s as the first dedicated fleet interceptor in Confed; previously various space-superiority fighters had been used for that role. The hallmark of the Wasp was its oversized, expendable rocket booster that accelerated it to very high velocities. This enabled last-ditch intercepts of enemy fighter raids at much greater distance than ever before. Another unique weapon was the swarmer missile, which was a pack of eight missiles datalinked to a forward optical sensor on the launching fighter. As long as the enemy fighter remained in the forward visible cone of the launching fighter, the missiles would hit -- they were effectively unjammable. The F-110A was armed with four swarmer packs, two heatseeking missiles and six image recognition missiles. Two mass drivers and two tachyon guns rounded out the armament.
