This "thing" generates bridged eyecaps for binoculars.
Unfortunately, nowadays most binoculars no longer come with decent eyecaps which are connected by a flexible bridge and stay attached to the binocular strap. Instead, new binoculars are often only delivered with two simple plastic caps which get lost very quickly.
Module eyecaps() in the included SCAD file is fully parametrized. The main parameters of the module are used to configure:
outer diameter of the eyepieces
distance between the eyepieces when fully opened
size and number of strap loops
number and type of bridge between the eyecaps
The example STL files are parametrized for the following binoculars:
Minolta 7x21 (31mm eyepiece)
Nikon Sportstar EX 8x25 (33mm eyepiece)
Pentax DCF 9x28 (35mm eyepiece)
For other eyepiece diameters, distances and bridge configurations just modify the SCAD file by adding your own call to module eyecaps() at the end of the file.
Given that the eyecaps bridges need to be flexible when the binoculars are folded for storage, the material of choice for printing the eyecaps is definitely ABS.
