European oval country code sticker

European oval country code stickers used on car bumpers and traffic signs. These stickers were introduced with the entry in the force of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic on 21 May 1977 to display the country of registration on the rear of the vehicle when driving in other signatory countries. Over the years, the country code has become increasingly incorporated in the common European vehicle registration plate format making these stickers less common (notable exceptions are Great Britain, Liechtenstein, Russia and Switzerland).
