The Eurocopter Tiger (company designation EC 665) is an attack helicopter built by Eurocopter. In Germany it is known as the Tiger; in France and Spain this helicopter is called the Tigre.
Initially, the Eurocopter Tiger EC-665 attack helicopter was developed and built for the German Army and French Army. The helicopter is produced in 3 configurations, multi-role attack support (UHT) versions for the German Army, multi-role combat support (HAD) and multi-role combat support (HAP) for the French Army. The Tiger EC-665 is manufactured by the Eurocopter company formed by European aerospace companies DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (Germany), Aerospatiale Matra (France) and CASA (Spain).
The Eurocopter Tiger EC-665 prototype was flown for the first time in April 1991. The production process began in March 2002. While the first flight of this production was carried out by the HAP version of the Eurocopter Tiger ordered by the French Army in March 2003.
The fuselage of the Tiger helicopter is made of a material consisting of 80% carbon fiber reinforced with polymer and Kevlar, 11% aluminum and 6% titanium. While the rotor is made of plastic fiber material that is able to withstand damage from fighting and attacks by flocks of birds. To anticipate lightning strikes and electromagnetic shock waves, this helicopter gunship relies on a copper/bronze coating on the fuselage.
Eurocopter Tiger provides tandem seats (2 front and rear seats) for the crew. The pilot sits in the front seat, while the weapons operator sits in the back seat. The front and rear seats are positioned slightly opposite so that the forward view of the weapon operator is not disturbed by the pilot.
