I learned that the pinout spacing for the wemos d1 mini stacking modules is similar to the esp32cam pins. Most specifically, the power and ground pins match for the battery and regulator shields. The battery shield also includes basic USB charging capability.
So I built a small case to house an esp32cam connected to a wemos d1 battery/charging shield.
Camera ribbon NOTE:
The ribbons on some cameras are slightly longer, but it is impossible to move the opening for the camera any higher without blocking the access to the microsd slot. However, I have not had a problem mounting the camera in the hole then moving the top 'down' to 'fold' the ribbon underneath. The camera still works fine and the case closes up with no problem.
Monitoring charge NOTE:
Be aware that on some shields they include a jumper J2 that can connect a resisted load to the battery + on what would be the wemos A0 pin which would correspond with the esp32 gpio 1. This can be used on the wemos D1 to monitor battery voltage. However, the esp32 is not set up to do ADC on gpio1. If you want to do battery monitoring, instead make sure the J2 is not closed use a resistor bridge to the ADC pin of your choice (2, 4, 12, 13, 14, and 15 support ADC with analogRead() )

The space unerneath should be able to fit most flat Lipo batteries from ~500mah through ~1500mah
