DON'T THROW AWAY your old worn out, grooved POM rollers. Instead, use 3 of them to create a low friction filament holder. This was made for my Ender 3 but I'm sure it will fit other models as well.
There are MANY spool holder examples online but I wanted to create something simple and uncomplicated while utilizing some old parts.
This holder is the same dimensions as the factory spool holder and reuses the same 30mm plastic nuts and the original metal bracket. It requires being printed in the vertical position with supports placed in the 3 cutout areas. Use low density supports for easy removal.
It works perfectly, providing an easy rolling filament spool. Even full spools roll effortlessly.
I have included an STL file for a 4.9x105mm axle pin, however, because it needs to print in a horizontal position, it has a flat area and was difficult to assemble. Alternatively you can use a 100mm long piece of 5mm (3/16") steel rod or tubing as I did.
This works best with filament spools having a flat, smooth inner hub surface.
Make sure (of course) to place the holder with the rollers in the UP (12 o'clock) position.
