Also known as Walpole Gate, Ely Porta was once the main entrance to Ely Monastery. Begun in 1397, it was built by Prior Poucher. The outside remains largely unchanged today. Architectural highlights include the simple facades and three-light traceried windows. In monastic times the building housed the monastery’s offices. Today, It houses the library of The King's School. On the right is the 14th century monastic barn, now the School’s dining room.
