This monument was erected at the point where the three parishes of Elveden, Eriswell and Icklingham meet to commemorate 48 men from the these parishes who lost their lives in the first world war. It has a total overall height of 127 feet, and was designed by Clyde Young, a London architect, taking two years to build. It was unveiled by FM Sir Henry Wilson on 21 Nov 1921, and is the tallest monument in Suffolk. The monument is situated by what has now become one of the busiest single carriageway roads in Europe, and is perhaps the most well known landmark between the cities of London and Norwich. I am dedicating this model to the fallen, and also to the memory of my late brother Richard; A true Peter Pan in life, and now forever more. You are missed by many. #Column #Elveden #Memorial #Monument #Suffolk
