The basic equation for the shape of this egg comes from following a point on a connecting rod near the crankshaft. The equation I came up with has 3 inputs: h = height, 0<ζ<1 is the width to height ratio (ζ = 1 is a circle), and 0<ε<1 is the Crankshaft arm to connecting rod length ratio, or "egginess" factor, such that as it nears zero, it becomes an ellipse. ζ = 0.7 and ε = 0.8 looked good to me. I then put in a third dimension and created an equation-driven curve that spirals around, and swept a shape through that curve. After this, I made a circular pattern, which looks cool to me.
