Built in 1849 near Heislerville, NJ, East Point Light was originally known as the Maurice River Light. The station closed in December 1941 and quickly fell into disrepair; the clapboard kitchen addition collapsed sometime in the late 1950s. In 1971, a fire destroyed the tower and roof of the structure; however, it was restored and relit in 1980. By 1998, however, it was beginning to fall into disrepair once again; as a result, a massive restoration project was undertaken.
