DSC - Digital Setting Circle for Telescopes
YouTube Video
Presents the same slides plus some video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SezbbfoszEI
Info shown as Images - Although all parts have been successfully printed (and coded) and installed on different scopes - posting here is a 'work-in-progress'. Too many info images and I'll clean them up (eventually...)
It's fairly easy to get up and running - the biggest challenge may be attaching the Fixed gear to the non-rotating part of your scope... Read through the info...
UPDATE (12/30/17): Added Photo of BreadBoard with Nano. Simple build... You can use an UNO if preferred (code and connections are the same...).
Also added photo of Pinouts (for clearer understanding).
Also, FULL CODE .Hex files are now posted at Github For those not interested (or skilled in programming) .Hex files of the full code for UNO and Nano. You'll need to learn how to flash your UNO/Nano (many Youtube vid's to help you). These codes use an LCD for display - no Serial or Bluetooth display output.
The .Hex files are for 4:1 Gear Ratio and Azi / Alt encoders with 600ppr (such as Signwise), yielding 0.0375 resolution. Polaris is locked in at 45.4º (but, you can use the Manual setting feature for Polaris at your latitude).
UPDATE (12/2/17): Code at Github now includes Bluetooth display of output. Added photo of NANO on Breadboard with Bluetooth (no LCD)
UPDATE (9/6/17): Code is now posted at Github:
https://github.com/farTooOld/Digital-Setting-Circles/tree/master
Sample code with a more complete version that uses the Encoder Library. I left out enough code for you to redo - there are enough comments and code to make it an easy challenge...
UPDATE(8/13/17):
Add link to design and code
