This historic homesite of Sylvester Doudy, the first settler in this area, was first built in1858. Doudy raised cattle and operated a gristmill and sawmill. The mills were washed out in the flood of 1864, but the house stood fast. In 1869 John Debacker, a Belgium native, bought the house and land and created a successful farm supporting the gold mining towns of Central City, and Blackhawk. In 1901 John Debacker retired and turned the property over to his daughter Emma, and her husband John Dunn who raised dairy cattle and lived there until John's death in 1953. The city of Boulder, Colorado purchased the property in 1969. The remaining homestead in now part of the Open Space Land System which protects Boulder's natural heritage. #Boulder #Colorado #Debacker #Doudy #Dunn #Eldorado #Farm #Historic #Marshal #Mesa #Open_Space #State_Park #Trails
