This is a redesign of the Filament Guide for the Prusa Mendel by tosjduenfs (thing #34133). I liked the idea of an oscillating arm holding the filament guide but it wouldn't have worked as such with my 3D printer setup: the top of my P3Steel is already way too crowded with a filament spool holder, the bundle of cables for the extruder, and an LCD controller mount. I needed a more flexible solution.
I designed this double-pivot filament guide so that it tracks the X-carriage motion without getting in the way of other moving or static parts on top of the P3Steel or Prusa i3 6mm frame. It looks good, is small and lightweight, requires little material to print and works well on my P3Steel. I am also using the same design for my Prusa i3 Twelvepro.
And since every Filament Spool Holder has different dimensions, I made this filament guide parametric: adjust the two arm lengths to suit your particular setup.
Also you can adjust the frame thickness for a P3Steel (3mm frame thickness) or a Prusa i3 (6mm frame thickness).
Update 08/12/2014: the frame thickness tolerance is now a separate parameter and can be adjusted to your particular frame (default is 0.1mm).
OpenSCAD sources are included so the design can be further remixed / optimized.
