First off, let me please ask that if you like these designs and find them useful please do like, follow and share my content. And if you have any ideas or concepts to modify the content I would love to hear!
I wanted a powerful and affordable desktop fan that I could run off of 12v in my office and also in my camper van when travelling. I chose a 120mm x 120mm x 38mm 12v DC fan from Sunon to design the shroud around. Any 120mm computer/CPU/server fan within those size constraints will fit this design as well.
This is the fan I designed it for: http://au.element14.com/sunon/eec0381b1-0000-a99/fan-standard-120mm-12vdc/dp/1924843?mckv=sESiX4QFR_dc%7Cpcrid%7C59148083448%7Cpkw%7C%7Cpmt%7C%7Cslid%7C%7Cproduct%7C1924843%7C&gross_price=true&CATCI=pla-401503001734&CAAGID=12550800888&CMP=KNC-GOO-SHOPPING-1924843&CAGPSPN=pla&gclid=CjwKCAiArOnUBRBJEiwAX0rG_aa0wg-5h_UpC6d2YvQ9MACcRZtydnVBaMXSUIBey_pCmE9QDPTuRxoCX34QAvD_BwE&CAWELAID=120185580000262561
The PWM motor controller I am using is a 12v Board with a potentiometer for speed control and PCB mounting dimensions 50mm x 31mm between centre of mounting holes. This is it here http://www.dx.com/p/pwm-dc-converter-motor-speed-controller-switch-green-12v-36v-10a-226934#.WptOTyNL2CQ
I use a AC (240V) to DC (12V) power supply with a 2.1mm two-contact jack for power. A location for the potentiometer and 2.1mm DC jack to be hard-mounted to the case has been given.
I have left this as a work in progress design as I wish to finish the detailing and aesthetics. As well as an auto-swing/controlled mechanism on the directional fins. I'm thinking ATTINY85 and a servo to keep costs down. At this point the fins are to be held in place with M3 socket head cap screws.
Be sure to let me know what you think. I would love to hear!
Kind regards,
James A.
