De Bolder (42.50 metres tall) is a spectacular office tower located in Schiedam that accommodates the main office of Mammoet Holding B.V. De Bolder was constructed entirely from prefab elements constructed using offshore technologies in the factory hall of Grootint B.V. These elements were then transported on trailers and pontoon over the Nieuwe Maas to their final destination. Using this efficient construction method considerably cut costs, and a continuous construction process (without idle days and through working in shifts) made it possible to construct the building in a remarkably short time: less than six months. The development of this innovative and flexible construction method has been so successful that it will be used more often in the future: for large-scaled nonresidential buildings as well as small-scaled housing projects that might even include flexible residential/office spaces. In addition to its unique construction method and spectacular transport, the futuristic look of this landmark – visible from miles away – also reflects the progressive pioneering spirit of the company located there.
