The Iroquois-class destroyers, also known as Tribal class, are a class of four helicopter-carrying guided missile destroyers of the Royal Canadian Navy, designed in 1964-68 and launched from 1972. Originally fitted out for anti-submarine warfare, a major MLU in the 1990s (Tribal Update Modification Program) overhauled the ships for area-anti-aircraft defense. The ships were the first large combatants exclusively powered by gas turbines and in contrast to similar Destroyer classes of the day, had significantly larger aviation spaces and command and control capabilities. Often serving as the NATO STANAVFORLANT Flagships, the class had a profound influence on the design of the USN's Spruance class Destroyer and subsequent classes of Western Destroyers. This is the Tribal class as commissioned in 1972. Updated, latest mesh and map revision. Model renders very smoothly in sim and looks quite convincing... #Algonquin #AntiSubmarine #Athabascan #bear_trap #Canada #cold_war #DDG #DDH #DDH280 #Desert_Storm #Destroyer #HMCS #Huron #Iroquois #NATO #Navy #Operation_FRICTION #RAST #RCN #Sea_King #Ship #Tribal_class #warship
