The legend of Erik, the manufacturer of scales

This story began long ago in the village Rjukan, Norway. Set among the pines, he was plunged into the dark night for much of the year.

There lived a manufacturer of ladders named Eirik. One day, his father bequeathed the factory. He was very proud to embark on this new adventure. Unfortunately, he suffered from achluophobie: he was afraid of the dark, ever since he was little. He could not explain the reason: he feared neither imaginary monsters or strange noises. He simply afraid of the dark.
Growing up, he sought solutions to this discomfort. He first thought of the candle, but a burnt Eirik plunged in the dark and in his phobias. He then tried with an oil lamp but extinguished the wick often without reason ...

One night he began to reflect in his studio in arranging his scales and tools. Then he turned his head to the sky and suddenly had a great idea: go get a star in the sky to illuminate his village, never fear!

The next day, he went to work. In seven months, he made a folding ladder several kilometers long.

He went to the village and asked all who were there to help to maintain the scale. Everyone agreed, and so after several hours of climbing, Eirik managed to get a star. Going down, he placed on top of a huge tree, one of those he used to make scale and so it retrouvât never happen in the dark.

Eirik was acclaimed by his village and released from all his fears. As a tribute to this hero that every year, we hang a star on top of our Christmas tree.
