Danio sp.
A Fish That Never Needs Feeding
Danio sp. are small, slender-bodied schooling freshwater fish that are frequently kept in household aquariums. These fish are cool water tolerant and can generally be housed in the same tank with other cool water species. One particularly interesting Danio is Danio rerio or Zebrafish or Zebra Danio. All Danio species are egg-layers, but Zebra Danio is the most prolific egg-layer of them all and the most easily bred of these fish. Furthermore, these rapid breeding characteristics make the Zebra Danio an important animal for scientific research, especially in genetics, regenerative medicine, evolutionary studies, stem cell research, and, most importantly, drug research, discovery, and development.
One popular offshoot from this research with the Zebra Danio was genetic engineering. In this case, a fluorescent fish was created and commercially marketed as GloFish. This sounds like a suitable subject for finally using that “glow-in-the-dark” filament you keep hidden in the bottom drawer.
The Model
This model has been designed to print on any 3D printer with a 6-x 6-inch build bed. There is both a left fish and right fish included in the STL file. You can print your fish singly or cement a left and right fish together and create a fairly good likeness of a real Danio. The recommended cement for construction is Testors Cement for Plastic Models (#3501).
