Valhar Morghulis!
And all games must be reborn, just in time for Season 7.
There are plenty of great versions out there of George R.R. Martin-inspired Cyvasse board games. Jonas Platte’s Cyvasse Online and DutchMogul’s monumental printable project are two stand-outs. This is my contribution.
Passages from throughout A Song of Ice and Fire are foundational for the game design, though there may be small discrepancies. My goal was to design a game that might well have been played between Tyrion and Young Griff, but whose creation wasn’t dictated by every quote.
The biggest innovation of this version is, I think, the choice of which side of a piece to use during set up. Since the mechanic has its inspiration in the face-changing of Jaqen H’ghar, I like to imagine this version as ‘Braavosi Cyvasse’, born as a part of the Faceless Men’s training, which then spread beyond the House of Black and White as more casual entertainment.
A Rules Guide, Board, and Labels for the pieces are included in the Thing Files. Basic Tacky glue has worked fine for me to attach labels to pieces.
The board: I got myself a custom 18x18in. playmat made by Inked Gaming, but you can print a working version on two pieces of 11x17in. paper as well.
Screen: Create your own! I plan on making one out of two cereal boxes, one slightly smaller than the other so they can slide in/out, and have them double as storage for the pieces.
I’m fairly new to both game design and CAD, so comments and pointers on either are welcome.
