The provides a nice flat mounting platform for putting your GPS and compass in the puck. I used this to mount HobbyKing LEA 6H GPS board along with the the stock compass.
With the HobbyKing LEA 6H I moved the antenna over to the side of the PCB so I could stick the compass to the other side of the PCB. Everything is held in place well this way.
