Make. Break. Repeat! on Facebook: Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
You are into fine woodworking? You are into fine joinery using self-cut dowels sawed flush with your fancy Japanese saw, gaps filled with the finest brew of colourless wood glue, sanded to gapless perfection? Please move on, this is probably not for you. But thanks for stopping by! Want to spare you the disappointment.
I need to get stuff done and I usually settle for "doesn't look terrible" as long as it works and works well enough.
Naturally my idea of a floating shelf is way different from the one of an accomplished fine woodworker. So when I use fasteners to mount something to a wall then there will be holes. To make holes "disappear" I use plugs. Lately I started printing my own since for my son's room all the plastic I use in connection with his furniture is themes Original Prusa Orange PLA or ABS depending on the task.
Enters CuvaMe, a simple most visible 35 mm plug for 12 mm holes. Looks great with any wood if printed in Prusa Orange. Cannot say what it looks like in any other colour, though.
I'll throw in the easy to use tool RecuvaIt for free (!) to pull those plugs out of their holes if the furniture ever needs to be moved to a different place.
