This Cubitos organizer uses the nested trays I previously posted here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4780629 The file for the tray is included here as well, so this Thing has all the files you need to create this insert. A few notes about the insert:
• I designed the insert with speedy setup and teardown in mind. To accomplish this goal, I generally prefer to have a set of trays that completely fills the box and holds tight when the box lid is on. With the box lid on, this insert without dice-tray lids passes the upside-down shake test. I also prefer to have individual player trays that hold everything a player needs to get started. With this insert, you can hand each player their own tray containing their starting dice and their player pawns.
• I try to avoid tray lids that can slow down setup and tear down times, and this insert has none. There is a good alternative dice tray design with a lid posted on BGG if you prefer a lidded tray design.
• I designed this with a 5-6 player expansion in mind. This means I included room for additional dice of the same colors we already have, additional sets of starting dice and player pawns for two more players, two additional roll mats, two additional roll phase/run phase boards, and probably some additional money. The current insert accommodates all of these extra components.
• The money and hands currently fit in one of the two money trays. The pictures show only one tray full, but you could split those resources across the two trays and place a tray at each end of the table. If we get additional money of the same values in the future, the two trays should easily accommodate it.
• I also anticipate that an expansion may include additional ability cards, racetrack boards, and new dice colors. For this reason, this insert includes room for extra cards and includes 12 dice trays instead of the currently-needed 8. There is also a vertical spacer that holds up the two racetrack game boards included with the base game. To accommodate additional racetrack game boards in the future, we will just need to print a reduced-height version of the spacer and everything will once again sit flush with the top of the box.
• The card tray supports sleeved cards. I don’t sleeve my cards for this game, but I tested the tray with a stack of cards in Dragon Shield premium sleeves and they fit well.
• There is some extra space in the box, so I included a few extra spots where we could put surprise components that may come in an expansion. There’s no way to know at this point whether the existing space will accommodate unknown expansion components, but we can always tweak the design if there some oddly-shape new components.
To obtain the insert as shown, print the following:
• 12x Cubitos Dice Tray Wide v3
• 1x Cubitos Misc Tray
• 2x Cubitos Money and Hand Tray
• 1x Cubitos Phase Tile Tray
• 6x Cubitos Player Trays v2
• 2x Cubitos Vertical Spacer (to get the hex pattern shown and to save filament, I set my slicer to include no top and bottom layers, with a 15% honeycomb infill)
Supports are only needed on the dice trays. I have included the OpenSCAD files in case anyone would like to tweak the design.
