I was thinking about what a modern naval vessel that had a similar role to a battle ship would be like. You could not have it be extremely large, it would be too big of a target. Nor would you want it to be too expensive, because it would always be vulnerable to torpedoes, missiles, and air power. The ideal modern battleship would probably be along the lines of a Submarine with AA capability, but that is just plain Silliness. So what I came up with is this, The OGN Tipus CNZ-180 Negacio de Zona Creuer (Area Denial Cruiser). Basically a Cruiser that can deny access to Air, Surface and Sub-Surface Threats within a set radius (radius is classified). In other words, this is what the USS Zumwalt Design should have been. My version just looks more conventional. To Start with you need a very powerful radar array. You would need to be able to track both Air and Surface targets, both conventional and Low Observable (aka Stealth). To do this, I went with multiple types of Radar that are then integrated. All are in fixed phased arrays, that are arranged so that there are no gaps. Included are High and Low Frequency radars, along with the ability to frequency jump. A specialized targeting algorithm is also included to guide ordinance to targets automatically. The main arrays are held in the BRUIXOT (Warlock) structure above the Helm. Primary Armament consists of 160 Type 6 VLS Tubes. This can hold any number of missiles, Including Cruise Missiles, Long Range Torpedoes, Long, Short and Medium Range Anti-Aircraft missiles, and anti-missile Missiles. There are also 16ea Type 9 VLS tubes. These carry the Asteroide Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile. It is designed to be fired towards a fleet of enemy ships and then it will always Target the largest target from above. This makes it a carrier killer, coming in from straight up at hyper-sonic speeds. Range for the Asteroide is up to . The 2ea SdPA 155 guns are primarily for shore bombardment. They use GPS guided munitions (or old fashioned 155 shells) and can hit a target 100kms away with less than a 20m variance. Both of these weapon systems are mounted ahead of the Superstructure. A throwback to the VRM Bèucaire Battleship The Sonar Suite is arranged around an advanced Dome Mounted Array and towable drones. Up to 3 drones can be towed behind (or to the side) of the C-180 at any time. The information can them be processed on board to create a very detailed map of undersea threats. To counter these threats, the CNZ-180 Design houses 2 full time ASW helicopters and can accommodate up to 2 more for extended times. In addition, the CNZ-180 is equipped with 4 torpedo tubes, 2 forward and 2 aft. The highpoint of the CNZ-180, though is its integrated CWIS design. This consists of 2 different types of Kinetic Modules and 2 different types of directed energy modules. The Kinetic Modules are both based around Rapid Fire 35mm guns. The shells are can either have fuses that cause the shells to explode at set ranges (aka Rheinmetal’s Millennium Gun) or can be solid slugs. The CNZ-180 has 3 turrets of the long range dual 35mm guns that can hit targets moving at supersonic speeds up to 5km away. It is also equipped with 2 turrets of the short range version of this gun. This version is primarily for surface targets, both at sea and in port. The Directed Energy weapons are designed to disable targeting sensors more than any other factor. The long range DaLEk System has 2ea 40MW lasers mounted in fore and Aft Turrets. These can disable targets in visible range. Within 10kms of the ship, the DaLEk system can heat incoming targets to the point of explosion. The completely automated Blinders System will target all incoming targets in an attempt to blind the guidance. There are 8 Blinders on the ship. In addition to these systems, the Ship is equipped with multiple MPu small missles that are chained to the CWIS system. These are able to destroy both Flying and Surface Targets. The End Product is the most effectively lethal non-carrier Surface Ship afloat in the world. And at a significantly cheaper price than a Carrier and Airwing, to boot! The CNZ-180 Design uses a lot of Power. Thus it has 4 Gas Turbines that power 4 Generators. All of the ships components are electrical. The Ship is propelled by 3ea 360 degree Azimuth Thrusters. Top speed is over 34kts. Crew is 300. This particular Ship is the 1st on launched of the CNZ-180 design. It is the VRM Albi (Hull Number 001). Upon Commissioning it will be the Flag Ship of the OGN Atlantic Fleet.
