After converting the Ender 3 to direct drive the question remains how to achieve a good feeding method for filament to the hotend. A previous method that fed PLA from the top of the printer proved inadequate as the print head was pulling and pushing filament which resulted in print artifacts.
Re-using the original extruder mount location of the Ender 3 to feed filament towards the hotend through a bowden tube is back to the roots simple. The tube slows down filament movement inside which results in a steady feed. Print artifacts have since vanished completely (which might also be attributed to a BMG-style extruder.)
The extruder plate acts as a housing for a Bondtech direct drive / Push-Fit adapter. You can get them anywhere on the net. Simply put it in and lock the amount of desired PTFE tube in place.
