So this is a print monitor that fits onto the little cover thats over the y axis homing switch on the Ender 3. Its made up of a Wemos d1 mini and a little esp8266 display and uses the same bolt pattern as the existing cover to mount it.
All the components fit inside the case and the usb cord is for power only, you could of course run it off a 5v buck converter as well if you wanted. You do you. You will need longer m3 screws to mount it if you chose to do so in the same place I did, but it works just as well sitting on the table or wherever you want. The two pieces are held together via friction fit as is the d1 mini so tune your printer before getting a piece of this action.
I used this guide https://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printer-Monitor-Wemos-D1-Mini-ESP8266/ to setup the whole thing, but beware you have to actually use the board version they use in the guide or the screen doesn't work. That's just how it is, trust me I know.
Also you have to remove the pre soldered header pins on the display and replace them with wires to get it to fit in such a small package, and I would recommend using hot glue to hold the wires in place as you move things around so they don't break off causing heartache and pain.
