My remix for installing a much quieter fan in the Creality CR-6 SE power supply.
credit to Thingiverse 2967389.
adds only 15mm to original power supply dimensions...23mm total with mountings
holes will need some enlargement (3mm drill?)
designed for Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM fan...
fan wiring: black=ground, yellow=+12v, blue and green not needed
will need to hack original fan connector to new fan wiring...
new fan is 12v, same as original
requires printer standoffs for proper clearance...I used Thingiverse 4504419 (or 4655004)
(UPDATE): I took a second look at the "Low-Noise Adaptor" included with the Noctua fan. As suspected, it's just an inline resistor(about 50 ohms) on the +12v yellow wire. It's supposed to reduce max RPM's from 2200 to 1700. Since the whole point of using this cover is to reduce fan noise, I extracted and installed the resistor into my fan wire harness. I verified that my fan was running before I reassembled my CR6.
Result: I can still hear the p/s fan kick in, but it's even quieter now, and it still cycles on and off, indicating it's doing the job.
NOTE: while I'm sure there is adequate air flow at 1700 RPM for open air use, I might not want to do this resistor mod to a printer that is inside a crazy hot enclosure!
