This is an adapter for CPAP masks to be used as a respirator type mask.
This is designed to function with CPAP masks that have 22mm hose attachment point. Should be a press fit but has relief cuts for a ziptie or hose clamp, Recommend using a sealing material between the adapter and the mask hose attach point to make a better seal. Found that a single layer of electrical tape works well.
PETG is the recommended material to be printed with as it is easier to clean/disinfect and slightly more flexible than PLA.
Takes custom filters. Cut square ~44mm with 3mm rounded or chamfered edges. I recommend Carbon coated MERV 16 or HEPA filtering material as they are similar in filtration to N95 respirators. Merv 16 is capable of filtering 85% > 95% of .3 micron material and >95% of 1.0 Micron material.
Filter Fits in the front cover and gets pressed in to the adapter body.
PETG (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol) Is considered food safe by the FDA, is non-porous, and does not dissolve in common 3d Printing solvents such as Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol.
While it is food safe and non-porous, the 3d printing process of creating layers does create small nooks and spots that can potentially harbor bacteria. It is highly recommended to wash with warm water and soap after each use and disinfect with alcohol.
PETG IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE, Water temperatures above 150F can soften material and could warp.
Chemical smoothing is difficult do to the chemical resistance of PETG plastic. There are some chemicals that can potentially dissolve and smooth the plastic such as MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), toluene, and cyclohexanone, but these are heavily regulated and can be dangerous.
