Note that all holes in the model should be fitted with gauntlet gloves. This provides alternative method of staff protection which might reduce the use of PPE, conserving the currently available equipment to be used in situations where this method is not appropriate. It is based on the technology for fume hoods, used in laboratories, when a worker needs to be protected from noxious materials. Positive pressure on the clean side is recommended. The plastic shield and gauntlet gloves would remain in place between patients and be swabbed down by a PPE suited staff member from the patient side. It would be appropriate to use in screening areas, where the interaction with an ambulatory patient might include an interview, taking vital signs, a blood draw or throat swab. It is shown sitting on an ordinary 5’ X 2 1/2’ desk. Further division of patient and practitioner areas could be achieved with room dividers and a desk modesty screen. This has NOT been tested in practice.
