The industrial design of any piece of electronic equipment can make or break a company. Think about how many electronic devices we have come to recognize because of great industrial design, Sony, Toshiba, LG, Razor, Logitech the list goes on. I took a good long look at what air patrol was all about and set out to design a cover that helped create a brand image for Air Patrol, something that would set them apart from the competition and say to their customers that they offered just that extra edge.

The cover offers a Retro futuristic style with cues from the past combined with futuristic, space aged elements. Although not a complex device in its function, the casing portrays an air of sophistication and technical complexity to the device, all the while being very simple in design and cheap to manufacture.

*notes:
I’ve offered pure estimations on the positioning of the lighting and accessories, difficult to design a case around a circuit board not knowing its architecture. Please take the design as a general template, small adaptations can be made once the CB architecture is known. IR sensors, USB and temp sens can be repositioned.

I’ve designed in two IR lenses that would be screwed into the cover from behind…this can be reworked if cost is an issue, will depend on IR sensors used, their shape etc.

I designed two covers, one tamper proof case with 5 clips which requires a special tool to open and one with just two clips on either side that can be removed by hand using fingers nails etc.

I did not include the two pin holes for hidden button access as they really could be put anywhere and are dependent on the circuit board architecture.
