3D printable alternative to the Cokin P adapter. This works with standard Cokin “P” size adapter rings, a full set of which can be purchased for around $9. Unlike the standard Cokin P adapter, this comes in multiple sizes to accommodate various square filter sizes (84mm, 100mm and 150mm) and can be configured to attach all three different sized filters simultaneously.
The main body of each adapter is made up of two main parts (A and B), the two parts are screwed and glued/bonded together, four brass threaded inserts are inserted, and the filter mounts are screwed to the adapter. Filter mounts are stack-able, so multiple filters can be attached. There is also a simple shroud available for each adapter to help block stray light.
Compatible with Magnetic filter holder here:https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2945482
Designed and printed in ABS, please be aware other materials may affect fit due to shrinkage, or lack of.
Cokin 84mm can mount only 84mm filters
Cokin 100mm can mount 84mm (using 100mm to 84mm conversion filter mount) and 100mm filters
Cokin 150mm can mount 84mm (using 100mm to 84mm conversion filter mount), 100mm and 150mm filters
To make an adapter, you’ll need:
Brass threaded inserts M4x6x6mm x4 (the 150mm adapter has an extra slot for 100mm filters, you’ll need 4 extra inserts if you intend to use them)
Countersunk screws M4x6-8mm x4 (2 extra required for 150mm adapter)
Countersunk screws M4x12+mm x4 (4 extra required for each set of filter adapters added, length of screws required depends on configuration)
Directions:
Print part A and B of the size you wish to use, note: part B has a small protrusion that locks the ring in place, I’ve been printing with this side up.
Lightly sand the two parts where they intend to contact (examine photos if unsure), screw the two pieces together (M4x6-8mm screws) and test the fit with your adapter rings. Additional sanding will reduce any slop.
When you’re happy with the fit, glue/bond the two pieces together, quickly screw together to align and hold in place. I’ve been printing these in ABS so have used acetone to bond.
Insert brass threaded inserts when dry using a soldering iron. Don’t want to use threaded inserts? You can alternatively drill out each hole and use a washer and nut.
If using a shroud, it will be sandwiched between the main adapter body and the filter mounts.
Filter mounts are designed to be printed with the "mouth" of the mount facing up.
100mm adapter can be converted to an 84mm using the 100mm to 84mm conversion filter mount, otherwise use Standard filter mount.
Filter mount spacers are available to lift the filter mounts higher if required (for clearing other mounts, bulbous front elements or inbuilt lens hoods).
