SUMMARY: I wanted to do this president because he is one of the few presidents that has served in my lifetime. He is also the first black president.
CLUES: 1) I heard that Cuba hasn't been able to drink coke until now because this president lifted sanctions on them.
2) I heard that the sanctions were caused by the Cuban Missile Crisis, which happened before this presidents time in office.
3) I heard that Americans can travel to Cuba now because of this president.
RESEARCH:
The Object: A coke bottle.
Significance: Cuba is one of the few communist countries that is still alive in the modern world. Not only do they shield their country from globalization and cultural influence, but the specifically block out Americanism and western imposition. Coca-cola is one of the classic things associated with America. It is a huge, global brand that is worth millions of dollars, and it was also the catalyst to the soft drink epidemic which changed the way of life for Americans and also all across the globe. Because of the strong correlation people have between Coca-cola and America, Cuba's government has banned the soft drink from being imported and distributed to vendors across the country. However, the Obama administration has recently sought to restore America's relationship with Cuba, and open up the trade between these two countries. Because of this, the Cuban public is now allowed to have this formerly banned beverage, and we are allowed to import goods from their country as well.
President: Barack Obama, Democratic Party, 2008-2016
The Act: Obama worked very hard and passed a lot of legislation to normalize relations with communist-run Cuba.
Impact: American and Cuban students can now study abroad in each others countries, and they can also vacation and become friends with each other.
