This is a linear actuator designed with modularity and ease of procurement in mind.
Excellent in a post-industrial economy, please feel free to contact me at sean@lowimpactdrilling.com. I could use some help with R&D.
Excepting stepper drivers and motors, drive belt hardware, and miniature bearings for sleeve, parts are available at most hardware & automotive stores.
Concept is for distributed manufacturing, Rep-Rap style.
Needs more work, not a gear-head project. Expected to be sloppy but a lot better than cutting or extruding by hand.
Intended for printing & CNC wood cutting. Metal version could be built for plasma cutting, using printed jigs to hold metal for welding. Easier to print the geometry.
Length variable, rails of copper tubing for smooth surface, printed parts for straightness.
One motor section per truss, then blanks to length.
Deflection over long distance unknown, 2ft section seems fine & strong. Durable...have abused w/o much damage.
