The church of San Giovanni di Sinis near Cabras, Oristano, is a Catholic religious building located near the present village of San Giovanni di Sinis. The church, built on an area formerly used as a Punic necropolis and then Christian, was built during the Byzantine period in the mid-sixth century, was enlarged longitudinal between the ninth and tenth centuries and is still present today in its early medieval making it one of the oldest in Sardinia. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the little church stands today with a rectangular base and protruding apse facing east and is built in blocks of bare sandstone exposed presumably from the walls of the ancient Punic city of Tharros which is a few hundred meters from 'building. The interior is divided into three naves separated by three arches in succession and covered with barrel vaults, above a small dome, and the lighting is provided by an octagonal window in front and three mullioned windows in the apse that refer to models widespread in areas of Lombardy and Ravenna.
