Halloween Gambit The Halloween Gambit (also known as Gambit Müller – Schulze or Gambetto Leipzig) is an aggressive chess opening in which White sacrifices in the first moves a Horse in exchange for a single pawn. It is a minor line of the Four Horses game, defined by the moves: 1. e4 (?) E5 2. Cf3 Cc6 3. Cc3 Cf6 4. Cxe5 The theorist Oskar Cordel reported in 1888 that the players of the clubs in Leipzig (Leipzig in German) used this cuff to reach dangerous positions for Black, but he did not believe it was valid. Among those players was called Gambetto Müller – Schulze. The two names did not refer to real people, it was a German equivalent of 'Signor Rossi and Signor Bianchi'. The current name was coined by German player Steffen Jakob, who explained that 'many players are shocked, scared as they would be by a Halloween mask, are mentally ready for a boring four horses, and find themselves facing Cxe5'. #chess #open game #Halloween Gambit
