The geographic center of the University of Pittsburgh, the 535 foot tall Cathedral of Learning is a signature building of the city. Of the neo-Gothic style of architecture, the skyscraper stands out among other similar height buildings. Over many years of industrialization around Pittsburgh, the tower has collected a fair amount of smoke and dust, which has discolored the facades. There is a plan to clean the Cathedral of Learning, though some people prefer the smoke stained look. Model by Zach Moore. The Stephen Foster Memorial houses the Stephen Foster Memorial Museum, the Center for American Music and also the Charity Randall, Henry Heymann and Studio theaters. Completed and dedicated in 1937, the memorial has been a tribute to Stephen Collins Foster also known as the 'father of American music'. Foster is known for writing 'Oh! Susanna', 'Camptown Races', 'My Old Kentucky Home', 'Old Black Joe' as well as many more. The memorial is located at the University of Pittsburgh and is primarily used by the University's Performing Arts Department for concerts and plays. The Building recently received a $3.2 million dollar renovation in 2003 which unveiled the Charity Randall Theater. The Stephen Foster Memorial was designed by architect Charles Klauder.
