I needed a simple enclosure to secure a neopixel to some 3mm Side Glow PMMA Fiber Optic cabling. I started with Firepixie's enclosure and:
added space for the wiring to come out of the back
extended the 3mm (2.75mm actually) hole out the front
expanded that size a bit to hold the wrapping around the PMMA
I printed mine with the back of the case down on my print bed for the rear cap, and for the front, the 3mm nozzle side down on the print bed. Because of the expanded clearances,
you can print it with a small brim to hold everything in place, but I didn't find that was necessary for me.
To use:
attach the 3 wires in and 3 wires out to the neopixel.
snap the neopixel into the front of the case
snap the back onto that securely, making sure to line up the wiring to the clearance holes
strip back about 5-7 mm of the sheathing off of the PMMA fiber
insert the raw PMMA fiber down the nozzle so it sits securely in the 3mm hole
You may need to adjust the depth that the fiber is inserted to get optimal light along the fiber.
